Academic writing in high school and college requires clear communication, but critical engagement, in-depth analysis, and sophistication are held to considerably higher standards in college. As indicated in Maddalena's essay, the move from summarizing content to digging into complicated arguments and analysis reflects higher education's growing needs. When students attend college, they are required to think more deeply, create stronger arguments, and write with a greater sense of intellectual responsibility. The key difference between academic writing in high school and college is the progression from fundamental comprehension to critical analysis.

Hello English 1101, Thank you for your comparison of high school and college academic writing. I definitely agree when stated academic writing in high school and college is the progression from fundamental comprehension to critical analysis. I do not want to downplay the work that's done in high school, but in College, it seems as if we have to put on 5 thinking caps just to write a paragraph. So yes, thank you for your insight.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that college writing encourages and help students to dig deeper and create stronger arguments. I love the way you wrote your blog post and definitely agree that the biggest difference between the two is the progress from fundamental comprehension to critical analysis.
ReplyDeleteAgreed -- high school is really only meant to serve as a base to build from education-wise, whilst college gives you the materials needed to build it with, which goes for every subject one learns in high school, not even just writing. Great work
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, you've captured the essence of the transition perfectly. As Maddalena points out, college writing demands a shift from merely summarizing content to engaging in complex arguments and in-depth analysis. This reflects the higher standards of intellectual engagement and sophistication expected in higher education. Students are encouraged to think more critically, develop stronger arguments, and write with a heightened sense of intellectual responsibility. The progression from basic comprehension to critical analysis is indeed the key difference between high school and college academic writing.
